Book Fair!

Next week, May 1-5, is our Scholastic Book Fair! The best part is that we qualified to have this fair as a Buy One, Get One FREE sale! Everything is BOGO! It is a great time to stock up on books for the summer and a great time to help us stock the library ;)! Buy a book for you and get one for the library free! Look for the high school library basket at the fair for our wishlist and if you want to see a book from the fair in our library please ask Ms. Melanie before adding it to our basket. For parents that want to volunteer at the fair, they can earn even more free stuff plus it counts toward their volunteer hours. We hope to see you at the BOGO Book Fair!

Book Club Reading Selection

I'm happy to announce that the Book Club selection is Anything But Typical by Nora Raleigh Baskin. I have multiple copies available in the library that can be checked out by students and staff. We will meet on May 16 @ 2:45 in the HS Library to discuss the book and introduce a summer reading incentive program. A little birdie told me there may also be treats at the meeting. Here is a brief synopsis of the book from www.goodreads.com:

"Jason Blake is an autistic 12-year-old living in a neurotypical world. Most days it’s just a matter of time before something goes wrong. But Jason finds a glimmer of understanding when he comes across PhoenixBird, who posts stories to the same online site as he does.

Jason can be himself when he writes and he thinks that PhoenixBird — her name is Rebecca — could be his first real friend. But as desperate as Jason is to meet her, he’s terrified that if they do meet, Rebecca will only see his autism and not who Jason really is.

By acclaimed writer Nora Raleigh Baskin, this is the breathtaking depiction of an autistic boy’s struggles—and a story for anyone who has ever worried about fitting in."

Book Club Suggestions

If you have any books you would like considered as part of our book club for the 2017-2018 school year, please get them to Ms. Melanie before the end of May. We will be finalizing the schedule before school gets out this year and we would love your input! Parents, you are welcome to join us for book club if you would like! It will be open to parents, staff, middle school and high school students. When choosing a book, consider the length, it must be appropriate for ages 12+ and the more accessible it is to acquire, the better.
